Ingólfur Vilhjálmsson - (bass) clarinet

Ingólfur Vilhjálmsson finished his Soloist diploma from The College of Music in Reykjavík ’98. He went to study further in Holland, completing Bachelor of Music from Utrecht Conservatorium ’00, Postgraduate diploma ’02 from Conservatorium van Amsterdam and Bachelor of music with bass clarinet as specialisation from the same institution in spring 2004. Among his teachers were Herman Braune, Harmen de Boer (clarinet teachers) and Harry Sparnaay and Erik van Deuren on bass clarinet. Ingólfur has specialized himself on the bass clarinet as a solo instrument. He was exchange student in 2005-2006 at the Hochschule für Musik Köln with prof. David Smeyers. He received a scholarship as a member of the  Ensemble Modern Academy 2006-2007. He has taken master classes with Joseph Balogh, Francois Benda, Karl Leister as well as taking private lesson with the Finnish clarinet guru Kari Kriikku. Ingólfur has worked with known composers as Hosokawa and with Lachenmann on his avant-garde landmark piece Dal niente. His playing has been recorded by the WDR, The Icelandic radio and Hessische Rundfunk. Ingo’s  other chamber activities include Duo Plus with accordionist Andrea Kiefer and also a duo with percussionist Tobias Guttmann.
